American paintings-Estimated at $ 200,000 - 300,000,

MILFORD, CT. - Major American paintings from the 19th century up to and including the contemporary era are covered during Shannon’s biennial American and European art auction, scheduled for Thursday, April 26, online and in the Milford Gallery, starting at 6:00 PM Eastern time. The auction contains almost 250 lots, with quality examples of the Hudson River School, American impressionism, modernism and European art.

Leading the auction is a New York City painting seen from Brooklyn by the famous American impressionist Colin Campbell Cooper (1856-1937). The fresh work shows the busy ferry traffic on the East River and the Brooklyn Docks overlooking Lower Manhattan. Estimated at $ 200,000 - 300,000, this rare gem is expected to attract the attention of museums and collectors.

Another striking market fresh painting is a regionalist scene by Dale Nichols (Am., 1904-1995) that is expected to deliver for $ 50,000-75,000. Painted by the artist in 1969, the work is entitled Winter on the farm. Shannon’s recently achieved a world record price for Nichols when Mid-Nation Winter sold for $ 120,000 at their last auction.
